Export tips from three BC companies

The BC Business Summit held on November 1st, 2017 in Vancouver highlighted that BC businesses are missing out on opportunities by being too risk averse.

There are a number of BC businesses who did export, to France, and were successful at it. France attracted them for its innovation leadership, talent pool and expertise in specific areas.

BC exports to France: success stories

At a business breakfast co-hosted by the Consulate General of France in Vancouver and Business France held on november 17th, 2017 in Vancouver, three companies shared their experience with BC companies CEO wanting to export:

  • Global biotechnology company Stemcell Technologies, took advantage of R&D grant funding programs, "aggressive tax credit systems compared to Canada’s SR&ED" and benefits from the new science research and innovation more welcoming than ever;
  • Digital distribution and publishing platform market leader Press Reader leverages from the “tech revolution” and “electric economy” through innovative cities partnerships;
  • IoT leader Sierra Wireless who, “when looking at strategy development", discovered that “innnovators were located in Europe and in particular in France” has since then had success. Executives mention the common “vision of innovation and the small ecosystem to spread (their) technology all over the world (with France’s) strong skillset and IP”.
