Visas for Djibouti, the Central African Republic and Mauritania

As Djibouti, the Central African Republic and Mauritania do not have an Embassy in Ottawa, you may obtain a short stay visa for these countries from the Consulate General of France in Vancouver.

1- Do I need a visa for a short stay in Djibouti, the Central African Republic and Mauritania?

Short stay visa for Mauritania:

- Yes, if you are not a citizen from a country listed above. Canadian citizens do need a visa to visit Mauritania.

Short stay visa for Djibouti

- Yes, a visa is mandatory to enter Djibouti, regardless of your nationality.

The visa issued is for a 10-day maximum stay. Should you need to stay longer, please contact the Djibouti immigration authorities upon arrival. Please note that you have to do it before the visa expiration.

Short stay visa for the Central African Republic

- No, if you are a citizen from:

Benin Burkina-Faso Burundi
Cameroon Republic of Congo Israel
Ivory Coast Liberia Liechtenstein
Mali Mauritius Monaco
Niger Rwanda Sao Tome e Principe

- Yes, if you are a citizen from a country not listed above. Canadian citizensdo need a visa to visit the Central African Republic.

The visa issued is for a 30-day maximum stay. Should you need to stay longer, please contact the Central African Republic Embassy in Washington D.C. prior to departure.

2- Processing time

Short stay visa for Mauritania:

The time needed for the Mauritanian authorities to reply to the request made by the Consulate General of France in Vancouver through the French Embassy in Nouakchott. Please allow three weeks prior to departure.

Short stay visa for Djibouti

The visa may be issued the next day of application.

Short stay visa for the Central African Republic

The time needed for the C.A.R authorities to reply to the request made by the Consulate General of France in Vancouver through the French Embassy in Bangui. Please allow three weeks prior to departure.

3- How to make an appointment?

Make an appointment online by clicking on the link below.

No appointment can be made at the counter, by phone or by e-mail.

Before making an appointment, please note that:

To use the system, the following configuration is required :
- Firefox 1.0 and higher
- Mozilla 1.7.8 and higher
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and higher
- Adobe Acrobat reader
- allow pop-ups

As no "rush procedure" is available, please book a slot in advance. It is recommended to book at least 4 weeks before you come. However, an appointment cannot be made more than 8 weeks in advance.

If the day of your choice is already fully booked, keep looking at the booking system to check if there are any cancellations.

Visas cannot be issued more than 3 months prior to your date of departure.

If you are not able to come on the day of your appointment, please free a slot to let other applicants make an appointment earlier. You may cancel your appointment up to 24 hours before.

Do not overbook : overbooking will result in the cancellation of all appointments without notice.

You may choose a slot between 9:15 AM and 11:35 AM, Monday through Friday.

The duration of an appointment is 20 minutes per person.

1 appointment = 1 passport. A family of 4 will need 4 slots, even if the children are minors.

Make sure you bring all the required documents when coming to the Consulate General.

At the end of the appointment booking process, please print out your confirmation number. You will need this number to change your appointment as well as to cancel it. However, if you couldn’t print out your confirmation receipt, it’s ok: simply show up on the date and time of appointment.

4- Requirements

Please provide original of documents plus a set of photocopy for each document (in letter size).

1. Passport valid at least six months after the expiry date of the visa + photocopy of all the main pages (pages with picture, expiry date of passport, visas, etc..)

There must be at least two empty pages left in your passport for the visa and the entry stamp.

5. For business trips, a letter of invitation from the company you are going to visit explaining the reason of your trip
