UBC assistant professor visited ESB Nantes [fr]
From March 23rd to March 25th 2015, Dr Julie Cool attended the Workshop on sawing organized by Jérôme Moreau, teacher and researcher at Ecole supérieure du bois (ESB) Nantes, the French engineering school of Wood technology and science based in Nantes.
Several field of collaborations have been identified. Filed visits, in forests and sawmills, enabled both teams to observe differences and similarities between French and Canadian wood management.
What is ESB?
The ESB Group trains managers for the various fields of the wood industry. It offers a wide range of courses in the field of wood science and technology.
This Engineering school specialised in Wood Science and Technology, is a non-profit institute under the supervision of the French Ministry of Agriculture and Higher Education and a « Conférence des grandes écoles » member.
Established in 1934, the ESB Group moved from Paris to Nantes in 1993 and since then has benefited from the dynamic region Pays de Loire and exerted its influence in France and abroad. Its creation was possible with the help of the wood sector itself and the French Ministries of Agriculture, Education and Industry.
Dr Julie Cool also met with researchers from the group specialised in the logging and timber processing machines and equipment from the Ecole nationale supérieure des arts et métiers (ENSAM) of Cluny. Further scientific collaborations have been discussed as well as students exchange programs.
