For the first time since its foundation in 1973, SIGGRAPH (Special Interest Group on GRAPHics and Interactive Techniques) www.siggraph.org/s2011/, an international event on computer graphics and interactive techniques, was held outside of the United States, in Vancouver, BC.

From August 7 to 11, 2011, 15,000 participants gathered at the Vancouver Conference Centre . Among them, many French professionals from all sectors involved in the development of digital technologies: Animation, video games, special effects, scientific and medical applications, artistic creation, etc. The French presence -estimated to 400 persons- was highlighted with a booth representing the business cluster Cap Digital, http://digitallyours.fr/siggraph-2011-vancouver/ certified by Ubifrance. Seven French animated films were included in the official selection of the SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival. Between 60 to 80 French researchers also attended the event, among them representatives of INRIA and Paris Tech.

The Consulate General of France in Vancouver promoted the French presence at SIGGRAPH 2011 by organizing a networking evening event in collaboration with Cap Digital, Imaginove and the Ecole des Gobelins. Two short-film screenings, featuring French animation movies were organised in collaboration with the Association française du cinéma d’animation, the Rencontres audiovisuelles de Lille and the Vancouver Centre for Digital Media. The 300 animation professionals who attended thoses screenings, had the opportunity to discover unreleased movies selected by Annie Dissaux.
