Spotlight on French Jazz at the TD international Jazz Festival 2016 de Vancouver [fr]
Building on the success of this very special program that began in 2012, a fifth edition of Spotlight on French Jazz was presented in partnership with Institut Français and the Consulat Général de France à Vancouver.
Spotlight on French Jazz
This year featured four distinctive projects in this Spotlight program, three feature top French artists/ensembles, and the fourth continues a French collaboration with Vancouver musicians.
Benoit Delbecq (piano) accompanied by Vancouver’s François Houle, Gordon Grdina and Kenton Loewen.
This collaboration expands on last year’s successful meeting. Benoit Delbecq has come to Vancouver to play since the early 90’s. The New York Times called him “A brilliant and unconventional French pianist”.
They will do a free performance on July 1st for Canada Day at Performance Works
Jacky Terrasson Trio (piano)
The last time Jacky Terrasson Trio performed in Vancouver was in the 90’s but his most recent performances across North America and Europe have been widely acclaimed.
He will be playing on Monday June 27th at the Christ Church Cathedral at 7:30 PM.
Tickets available here.
Eve Risser (piano)
Eve owes her presence at the TD International Jazz Festival in parts to her mentor Benoit Delbecq. She plays with drummer Yuko Oshima under the name of Donkey Monkey.
Listen to Donkey Monkey.
They will do a free performance on June 27th at 2:30pm at Performance Works
Emile Parisien Quartet
Upon discovering the quartet at a festival, New York Times’ Nate Chinen said “(they) left the strongest impression”. TD Jazz Festival Artistic Director and Co-founder Ken Pickering deems they deserve their emerging reputation as one of Europe’s brightest young talents on the jazz scene.
