Photograph Ian Wallace appointed Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres [fr]
During his visit in western Canada to attend GLOBE conference, French Ambassador to Canada Nicolas Chapuis awarded the title of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres to famous Canadian artist Ian Wallace.
Artistic figure on the contemporary art scene in Vancouver, Ian Wallace has inspired many artists from the eighties. He is at the origin of the "photoconceptualism" movement that raised Vancouver as a major location for visual arts in Canada and an international reference for contemporary art.
Ian Wallace’s work is based on a thorough knowledge of Art history, especially the French avant-garde from the second half of the nineteen century to the beginning of the twentieth. He has nourished an exceptional intellectual proximity with literary and cultural history of France.
To aknowledge his contributions to the development of contemporary Art and his ties with France, the French Ministry of Culture and Communications named Ian Wallace Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres. French Ambassador to Canada Nicolas Chapuis awarded him during a ceremony at the Dior boutique in Vancouver on March 3rd, 2016.
