Panel Discussion Canada-EU Arctic Dialogue: Resource Development and Governance

With increasing global interest in the potential development of Arctic energy and natural resources, both Canada and the European Union have sharpened their focus on developing their respective Arctic strategies. Meeting the challenges of sustainable and responsible development in the Arctic will require Canada and the EU to engage with Arctic partners, including communities, and ensure dialogue between key stakeholders. The panelists will address key issues in this discussion, including environmental and social impacts of resource development, corporate-community relations, and Arctic governance.

Panelists include:

  • Laurent Mayet, Deputy Ambassador to the Polar Regions, Ministry for Foreign Affairs of France
  • Charlie Evalik, Chairman of the Nunavut Resources Corporation
  • Klaus Dodds, special advisor to the UK House of Lords Select Committee on the Arctic

This public panel will present a summary of discussions at the symposium on Canada-EU Arctic dialogue held at U of A on the same day. The event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the panel discussion.
