Promotion of LGBTQ Rights in Foreign Policy : webinar August 4 [fr]
For many years, the Consulate General of France in Vancouver, alongside other members from the Consular Corps, have been taking part in Vancouver’s pride events. This year, due to COVID-19, celebrations were held online between July 27 and August 1.
The Consulate General continues supporting members of the LGTBTQ community.
On Tuesday August 4, Consul General, Philippe Sutter, took part in the webinar "The Promotion of LGBTQ Rights in Foreign Policy". It was a conversation on the importance of advocating equality for the LGBTQ community internationally and what the governments of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, and Canada, are doing overseas to promote LGBTQ rights.
He presented France’s actions on fighting discriminations, violence and violations against LGBTQ human rights. He gave concrete examples, including within the European Union and international organizations.
The fight to decriminalize homosexuality is a priority for France and to that end, France supports all actions to promote human rights and the fight for the acceptance of human diversity and the universality of human rights, in multilateral fora and on a bilateral level. We also finance a number of projects, for instance through an LGBTI Fund set up with the Netherlands and Norway to support selected civil society initiatives.
