L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science @4womeninscience [fr]
This event highlights the importance of the contribution of women in Science and a platform to promote funds accessibility as well as the enhanced cooperation between Fance and Canada.
The Ambassy of France in Canada partnered with the UNESCO, the Fonds France-Canada pour la Recherche (FFCR) and the Conseil de Recherche en Sciences Naturelles et en Génie (CRSNG) to host The 14th Canadian ceremony L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science which took place on November 15th in Ottawa.
All candidates were in the field of neurosciences, microbiology, nanotechnologies, evolutionary biology and paleontology.
Five women were awarded:
- two PhD researchers for l’Oréal-FFCR (Fonds France-Canada pour la Recherche) grant
- one post PhD for the L’Oréal-CRSNG (Conseil de recherche en Sciences Naturelles et en Génie) grant
- and 2 young researchers for the L’Oréal-UNESCO grant.
These grants aim at improving the representation of women in « STEM » (Science, Technologie, Engineering and Mathematics).
The success of this event shows the growing interest from Canada which is about to hold for the first time the Gender Summit in 2017 in Montreal.
