Canadian investments in France [fr]
Several days ago, Business France published the report "Rapport sur l’internationalisation de l’économie française - Bilan 2015 des investissements étrangers en France" (Report on the internationalization of the French economy – 2015 Overview of foreign investment in France). This document analyzes foreign investment decisions and their contributions to the French economy.
In 2015, 962 investment decisions created or maintained 33,682 jobs; this is the highest level in five years.
With an average of 19 decisions each week, 2015 saw a 27% increase in the number of jobs created, compared to 2014.
Canadian companies contributed to these positive results:
- Roughly 250 Canadian companies currently employ more than 20,000 people in France. 2015 saw the arrival of 38 new projects that created or maintained more than 1,700 jobs, which is an increase of 31% compared to 2014.
- 26% of projects are in the digital sector.
- 21% of projects are in Research & Development (well above the global average of 9%).
Stemcell Technologies (Canada), based in Vancouver, BC, specializes in designing cell culture media, cell separation products and ancillary reagents for stem cell, immunology and life science research. Its French subsidiary, StemCell Technologies SARL, currently led by Marie-Claude Genevay, was founded in Grenoble (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region) in 1998, from where StemCell Technologies manages its European sales, distribution and support. In 2015, this biotech firm recruited a dozen employees to bring its total French workforce up to more than forty people.
