5th Night of Ideas on January 30 in Vancouver & Calgary [fr]

Nuit des idées, the global series of intellectual marathons coordinated worldwide by the Institut français took place this year on January 30 at more than 120 locations around the world on the theme "Etre Vivant / Being Alive".

Since its creation by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Institut Français in 2016, the Night of Ideas has been held every last Thursday in January. It brings together philosophers, writers, researchers, intellectuals, students, whistleblowers, artists and political figures in France and abroad, around a set theme.

Speakers and the public are invited to discuss their vision of the present and debate solutions for the challenges of tomorrow as regards equality, ecology, education, urban planning, science, politics and technology, during events that include conferences, meetings, forums, round tables, film screenings and artistic performances.

The events united around this year’s central theme: "Etre Vivant / Being Alive", exploring humanity’s relationship with the world and other species, on January 30.

In Vancouver, the Alliance Française held a special evening dedicated to languages ​​and oral cultures. Around speakers from various backgrounds, the great linguistic diversity of the province of British Columbia will be discussed : the projects to safeguard this gift, the development of pluriniguism and the actions to keep this diversity alive.

Alliance Française Calgary explored this year’s theme "Etre Vivant / Being Alive" through photography and painting. Two professionnal artists will lead creative workshops and guide you during hands-on activities.
